Rethink How International Medical Grads are Handled Tennessee and several other states have opened pathways for immigrants with US-level equivalent medical practice and licensing to practice in the US without having to go back through medical training. In some cases, barriers have been thrown up at the licensing level by the state medical boards, and in others, there are still huge (and sometimes expensive) visa and US residency barriers to overcome. Examining NYU in particular, but including other schools where donations have allowed them to go tuition free, the results after seven years of programs are exactly the opposite of the intent. Which doesn’t mean the programs are bad, but that the work towards becoming a physician begins long before medical school, and the admissions criteria or cost doesn’t magically change who enrolls. Zoom has a native transcription service as well, which does a pretty great job of meeting summarization. In this case, we haven’t seen a lot of syndication of the article. EviCore (a Cigna company) manages prior authorization for insurers representing around 100 million insured, as well as oncology and pharmacy approvals. Being a company pretty specifically designed to say “No” isn’t going to make them very popular, but the article adequately explains both sides of the transaction. What everyone wants to know about businesses like this are the decision-making criteria. That’s where it gets murky.
