Rhode Island Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline CME Requirements

Annual State CME Requirements for Rhode Island

  • 40 total hours every 2 years
  • 4 Public Health Needs CME
  • 40 AMA Category 1 CME or AOA Category 1-A CME

Every physician licensed to practice allopathic or osteopathic medicine in Rhode Island under the provisions of the Act and this Part, shall on or before the first (1st) day of June of every even-numbered year, on a biennial basis, earn a minimum of forty (40) hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™/AOA Category 1a continuing medical education credits and shall document this to the Board.

At least 4 hours of continuing medical education shall be earned on topics of current concern as determined by the director of the Rhode Island Department of Health. Current topics include: Ethics, Risk Management, Opioid pain management / chronic pain management, End of life / palliative care, Antimicrobial Stewardship.
