Annual State CME Requirements for Texas

  • 48 total hours every 2 years
  • 2 Medical Ethics and/or Professional Responsibility
  • 24 AMA, AOA and/or AAFP Category 1 Credits
  • 24 Informal Hours

The Texas Medical Board requires physicians to complete at least 48 credits of Continuing Medical Education (CME) every 24 months (24 month timeline is in relation to the biennial registration period, not the calendar year). At least half of these hours must be in formal, category 1 or 1A courses. A TX physician must report during registration if she, he, or they have completed the required CME. However, newly licensed physicians are exempt from the CME requirement the first time they register.
