What’s terrifying the author in particular is deepfakes, but it’s a good compendium of the down sides of technology, applicable not just to kids, but to adults as well. As AI becomes cheaper, it’s going to compound and speed up the potential for harm and abuse.
Problems with AI, and the amplifying effect it will have on abusive technology use, are so far poorly quantified. The first public release of a GPT was just a year ago. We’re in the ‘mostly positive’ camp in Challenger for our view of where AI can bring benefits, but aren’t ignorant of potential problems.
